The Graduate School of Social Sciences (GSSS) is part of the University of Amsterdam. The GSSS offers Master's programmes in the social sciences, both in Dutch and in English.
The Graduate School builds upon existing institutional structures. It encompasses all the Master's and Research Master's programmes that were located within the following institutes:
- Amsterdam Institute for Education in Social Sciences (AIM)
- Onderwijsinstituut Geografie, Planologie en Internationale Ontwikkelingsstudies (GPIO)
- International School for Humanities and Social Sciences (ISHSS).
The programmes are grouped in four divisions of varying sizes that coordinate the programmes. The divisions are:
- Dutch taught Master's programmes (aansluitmasters)
- English taught Master's programmes (some of these programmes are selective);
- Research Master's programmes;
- PhD education programme (to be developed).
By clustering different Master's programmes of the social sciences, the GSSS wants to promote a lively and intensive academic culture that makes the most of the many and diverse programmes it offers.
The school aims at
